What is Wiki Public Schools - Houston

CHILDREN AT RISK met with administrators from schools throughout Harris County to identify which practices in urban and suburban education are being implemented at the campus level. From our visits we know that campuses around Harris County are working to strengthen education and increase student performance by:

  • Encouraging small learning communities;
  • Changing school structure including lengthening school day or school year;
  • Improving teacher quality;
  • Facilitating community collaboration; and
  • Strengthening data collection and use in order to develop intervention protocols and prevent at risk students from dropping out of school.

At this time CHILDREN AT RISK staff have met with several public high schools and public charter schools to learn what administrators are doing at the campus level to educate Houston's youth. To date we have met with:

  • Atascocita High School (Humble ISD)
  • American Academy of Excellence (Public Charter School)
  • High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
  • Quest High School (Humble ISD)
  • Kingwood Park High School (Humble ISD)
  • Seven Lakes High School (Katy ISD)
  • YES Southeast Academy (Public Charter School)

During our visits with school administrators CHILDREN AT RISK asked a series of questions in order to identify current approaches in education. From those conversations we are profiling high schools in the Greater Houston area.
